SHOCK ABSORPTION AND VIBRATION ISOLATION WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Wire Rope Mounts use stainless steel wire rope loops as a resilient spring element. The internal friction between the individual wire strands dissipates energy under dynamic loading with no fluids, no rubber compounds and no external damping media required.

The result is a damping system that performs reliably across the full service life of the installation, in any climate and under any load condition.

✓ Handles shock and vibration simultaneously
✓ Performs in the harshest environments
✓ Zero maintenance over the full service life
✓ Non-linear response under load

WIRE ROPE MOUNT CONFIGURATIONS

From compact single-loop isolators to heavy-duty multi-loop systems

Wire Rope Mounts (WRM)

For heavy shock, vibration and extreme environments.

Wire Rope Mounts use stainless steel wire rope loops as a resilient spring element. They are designed for maximum durability under severe conditions with no fluids, no rubber and no consumable parts. Internal friction between wire strands provides consistent energy dissipation across the full load range.

Choose Wire Rope Mounts when

✓ Shock loads are high or severe.
✓ Vibration levels are high under demanding operating conditions.
✓ The environment is harsh, e.g. salt water, dust, temperature or UV.
✓ Long service life with minimal maintenance is critical.

Typical applications

Coated Wire Rope Mounts (WRM-C)

For contamination-sensitive and corrosion-critical environments

Standard wire rope dampers generate fine metallic wear particles under dynamic loading. Testing in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory confirmed that these particles are magnetic and capable of penetrating sensitive electronics, adhering to circuit boards and causing system degradation over time.

Our coated Wire Rope Mounts solve this at the source. A high-performance thermoplastic coating is applied to each individual wire strand, creating a controlled micro-contact interface that prevents metal-to-metal contact and eliminates particle generation without compromising damping performance.

Choose Coated Wire Rope Mounts when

✓ Particle generation and contamination must be minimised.
✓ Sensitive electronics or cleanroom equipment must be protected from metallic wear particles.
✓ The environment is corrosive or chemically aggressive, e.g. salt water, acids or industrial pollutants.
✓ Long-term damping performance with low maintenance is critical.

DOES YOUR PROJECT REQUIRE VALIDATED COMPLIANCE WITH SHOCK AND VIBRATION STANDARDS?

At Damping Solutions, Wire Rope Mounts are engineered and documented to the standards that matter in defence, marine and industrial procurement. All testing is carried out in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, with full validation reports available for your certification process.

✓ MIL-STD-810 / MIL-STD-167
✓ MIL-STD-901
✓ AECTP-400
✓ DEF STAN 00-035
✓ BV 0430 / BR 8470

How do you calculate the correct Wire Rope Mount for your application?

Our in-house calculation & simulation software analyses spring and damper systems under combined shock and vibration loads across both time and frequency domains. This includes non-linear spring characteristics, damping behaviour under repeated shock events, and direction-dependent loading in the X, Y and Z axes. The output is a validated engineering report ready for your certification or procurement process.

Use our CSS when:

✓ Compliance with MIL, AECTP, DEF STAN or naval standards is required
✓ Shock Response Spectra (SRS) evaluation is needed
✓ Controlled stresses and displacements must be verified
✓ A certification-ready engineering report is required

Frequently asked questions about Wire Rope Mounts

What is the difference between a Wire Rope Mount and a rubber isolator?

Wire Rope Mounts and rubber isolators both provide vibration isolation, but they differ significantly in performance, durability, and application range. Rubber isolators combine elasticity and damping in a single compact element and are well-suited for general machine isolation where loads are moderate and the environment is stable. Wire Rope Mounts use stainless steel wire rope loops as the spring element, with internal friction between wire strands providing energy dissipation. This makes them far more capable under high shock loads, extreme temperatures, and aggressive environmental conditions. Unlike rubber, wire rope does not fatigue, crack, or degrade over time, making Wire Rope Mounts the preferred choice wherever long service life, harsh environments, or high dynamic loads are the primary requirements.

Do Wire Rope Mounts generate particles under dynamic loading?

Standard stainless steel Wire Rope Mounts do generate fine metallic wear particles as a result of internal friction between wire strands under dynamic loading. Testing in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory confirmed that these particles are magnetic, despite stainless steel being typically considered non-magnetic. Mechanical stress and friction alter the microstructure of the material through martensitic transformation, making the particles magnetically active. In sensitive environments such as electronics bays, cleanrooms, and communication equipment enclosures. This represents a real contamination risk. Our coated Wire Rope Mounts eliminate this at the source by applying a functional thermoplastic coating to each individual wire strand, preventing metal-to-metal contact and stopping particle generation without compromising damping performance.

How do I select the right Wire Rope Mount for my application?

Selecting the correct Wire Rope Mount requires knowing the mass of the equipment, its centre of gravity, the expected vibration frequencies, the shock load levels and the available mounting space. From these inputs, our calculation & simulation software determines the required stiffness, natural frequency and damping configuration, including the number of mounts, their orientation and the optimal 45° or vertical mounting geometry. If load data is not available, our field measurement & data logging service can record real operational conditions on-site and use the measured data as direct input for the calculation. The result is always a validated engineering report with a confirmed isolation concept, ready for your procurement or certification process.

Can Wire Rope Mounts be used in salt water and outdoor environments?

Yes. Wire Rope Mounts are built from stainless steel and are designed for use in aggressive environments, including saltwater, coastal air, dust, UV exposure and extreme temperature ranges. Our standard Wire Rope Mounts have been validated for offshore, marine and military outdoor applications. For environments where long-term corrosion protection is the primary concern, our coated Wire Rope Mounts provide an additional level of defence with salt spray resistance exceeding 20,000 hours without blistering or corrosion and full resistance to dilute acids, alkalis and industrial pollutants.

Which standards are Wire Rope Mounts tested and validated to?

Our Wire Rope Mounts are tested and validated in accordance with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-167, MIL-STD-901, AECTP-400, DEF STAN 00-035 and BV 0430 / BR 8470. All testing is carried out in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, and full validation documentation is provided with every engineered solution. For project-specific requirements, our team can advise on the applicable standards and design the test programme accordingly.

Don't have operational load data for your application available yet?

When real-world shock and vibration levels are unknown, our Field Measurement & Data Logging (FMD) service records conditions directly on-site using standalone data loggers. Measured data is converted into SRS curves and load cases, giving your engineering team accurate input from the start, not assumptions.
